New Energy Options: Electrical Power Design for Photovoltaic Systems
New Energy Options (NEO) provides electrical design documentation for photovoltaic systems in standard electrical construction industry formats. NEO's approach to design documentation bridges the gap between design documentation for conventional electrical utilization equipment, and that required for photovoltaic technology. While the vast majority of the National Electrical Code requirements and wiring methods used in the installation of photovoltaic systems are common to all electrical installations, some practices, such as equipment grounding, system grounding, overcurrent protection, and device sizing differ. Once the features that are unique to PV have been identified and annotated the resulting documentation is easily understood by electrical contractors, estimators, and field staff.
New Energy Options is a professional engineering firm that works solely on a fee-for-service basis. NEO does not represent any module, inverter or balance of system manufacturer. When recommending or specifying particular components our selection criteria are to provide the safest, code compliant, and most cost effective system that meets the clients stated design objectives. While we are thoroughly familiar with the ever expanding body of photovoltaic equipment and balance of system components on the market today we receive no commission on any of the items we specify, nor do we resell any hardware devices. This approach allows New Energy Options to act in the clients best interest at all times.
New Energy Options can provide electrical design services for your photovoltaic project or we can provide review of design and bid submissions and perform on-site inspections. NEO can act as the customer's representative when dealing with the interconnected utility. We can also provide representation for the contractor/building owner with the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for all necessary inspections and any requests for variance from the NEC which may be required.
